Microsoft® Exchange 2000 Server provides a wide variety of application development facilities, including programmable workflow. Workflow processes are used to enforce business rules, such as who sees an item, the sequence of events an item goes through, the routing of an item, or even when an item can be created and deleted.
The Workflow Designer for Exchange 2000 Server uses a graphical user interface to represent the workflow process as a diagram that can be edited. The Workflow Designer for Exchange 2000 Server creates workflow processes specifically for Exchange folders. When workflow is applied to a folder, all items in that folder conform to the information flow created by the workflow process.
The Workflow Designer for Exchange is also available as a component of Microsoft Office XP Developer. The complete Office Developer product provides additional tools and samples for developing applications that leverage Microsoft Office and server products.

The Workflow Designer for Exchange 2000 Server is installed when you download and run the ExchangeWFD.exe file.
If you are running Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0, Windows® 98, or Windows 95, you must first update the Windows Installer to version 1.1. If you are running Windows 2000, you already have version 1.1 and you do not need to reinstall it.
Download the Windows Installer Redistributable for Windows 95 and Windows 98.
Download the Windows Installer Redistributable Version 1.1 for Windows NT 4.0 (x86).
Additional development information, downloads, technical articles, newsgroups, and more can be found at the Exchange Developer Center Web site.
